[Your Name] [Your Address] [Your City/State/Zip] [Date] The Honorable [Name] [Title] [Address] [City/state/zip] Dear [Senator/Representative] [Last Name]: I entrust my life and that of my loved ones to you, my elected representative, each time we fly. Despite millions spent on upgraded new scanners and training for TSA screeners, it is clear current security screening measures are not effective at detecting weapons and explosives. U.S. GAO Reports on Homeland Security year after year detail how federal agents breach multiple security checkpoints with guns and explosives totally undetected and, most recently, we had the Christmas day bombing attempt. Security agencies blame the failures on screener inexperience, lack of training, inattentiveness, failure of staff to perform their duties and inadequate scanner technology. I ask that you spearhead a change in this area. The real issue is that security scanners don’t accurately detect threat items and rely heavily on security screening personnel to identify threat items within the scanned images. This is a recipe for failure because human eyesight limitations make it impossible for even highly trained screeners to detect most explosives within scanner images. Coupled with other human factors, such as distractions, eye fatigue, inattentiveness and the difficulty of the task, the likelihood of failure is a near certainty. Only machine vision software can solve both the hardware and human limitations that currently hamper reliable threat detection at security checkpoints. Guardian Technologies International has developed a machine vision solution called PinPoint™ Threat Detection and Identification that I believe is the type of new security screening technology called for by the Homeland Security Committee members and President Obama. PinPoint accurately identifies explosives and weapons from current and next-generation security scanners. PinPoint has a very high accuracy rate for identifying threat items that pass through scanners. Further, when PinPoint flags an item as a threat, you can be more than 90% certain that it is a threat item, rather than a false positive. This would aid current scanners whose auto-detect systems are not used by TSA due to their high false positive rates. The TSA, independent security consultants and other international government agencies have vetted PinPoint. As a taxpayer, I’m excited that this software technology doesn’t require a huge investment in hardware or extensive re-training of screeners, since it can be added to existing and next-generation scanner hardware. Here’s a link to more information: http://www.guardiantechintl.com/security.php Please examine PinPoint as a potential solution to help close the gaps in checkpoint security. For your convenience, I’ve attached information on PinPoint and contact information for Guardian Technologies below. I know they would welcome the opportunity to discuss this in greater depth. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. Sincerely, [Your Name] Contact information for Guardian Technologies: Michael W.
